Moms, We're All Just Doing the Best We Can

Hi family and friends! 👋

We were at the pool the other day for an hour and a half with a mom and her daughter. As she was leaving, she made a comment about how we pretty much had the whole thing to ourselves today, followed by “you’re a really good mom and your kids are so well behaved”.

It made my whole freaking day!

What I see all day is her getting to spend 1:1 time, focused on one child’s attention, playing silly games with her. I admired how attentive she was and how well she conversed about all the rules she her daughter created on the fly. She was smiling, laughing and giggling having a good time the entire time. Me on the other hand, had three bathroom trips for the oldest, two for the youngest (so we all get out and go together each time), one kid in the deep end one in the shallow, one wanting the hot tub and one wanting to sit out, one in timeout for not listening. I spent half of the time out of the pool walking back and forth like a lifeguard so I could see both, throwing dive sticks, blowing up tubes, trying to get the kids to drink water, picking up toys. 😂

Not even sitting in a lawn chair cuddling my son for 10 minutes and watching my daughter in the kids hot tub did I think about how well I was doing. I was focused on what I couldn’t provide.. the individual attention for each child like she could.

Thankfully she saw the beauty in today’s chaos and what I was doing and let me know.

I hope I can relay the same message to another tired, yet doting toddler mom I meet who’s also doing the best she can. ❤️

Be kind to each other. We're all on the same team.

I hope you all have a fantastic week!
